Lightning Strikes Twice?
This has been an off-season for change for the Monkeys. Gone are Peyton Manning, Chris Johnson and Matt Forte. That's enough talent to kick start any team in the league (actually, you can find Peyton and CJ down the road in Jubas camp).
However, one thing will remain: LaDainian Tomlinson will be a Monkey. While there were some questions of the Monkeys to re-sign Tomlinson this offseason, Monkeys' management made it a priority to bring LT under contract this past week.
Tomlinson, the original 4th round draft pick from the Monkeys' inaugural draft, has been the public face of the franchise for the last decade. The heart and soul of the team has been the unquestioned leader for the past 10 years. With that in mind, Monkeys GM, Evan, announced earlier today that Tomlinson will indeed be back for his 10th season with the Monkeys.
In his afternoon statement to the press, Monkey's GM, Evan, said, "LT is a big part of our franchise and we recognize that. LT knows that his role may be changing this year but he is our unquestioned leader for our roster. He'll serve as a terrific mentor to Ryan (Mathews) and JC (Charles). We expect LT to also make several starts throughout the year and I suspect that people will see the LT of old. That means that this is a good football move for our club."
Tomlinson was all smiles during his introduction to the media. "This is a dream come true. I am a Monkey for life and to have an ability to come back and mentor these young kids -- it really is a dream come true. We have a young team this year but I expect for us to compete like every other year for that ring."
