With one more week to go in the regular season, its time to look forward at the playoff picture (and also a quick look back at the year that was).
Inscrutable Drama Kings
This division is set. The resilient Monkeys proved once again that they are one of the deepest teams in the league, even with three keepers offering little to no production (Julio and Randall are out for the year and Trent might as well be). However, with the emergence of Josh Gordon, Giovanni Bernard and a supporting cast including Torrey Smith, Harry Douglas and Shane Vereen, the Monkeys continue to be one of the best teams in the league evidenced by the best record and the most points scored. In the first round, it'll be the Dirty Birds vs the Jammers. I'ts important to note that its been over four years since the Jammers have made the playoffs and even their last appearance in 2008 was somewhat of the backdoor variety given they made it with a losing record. The 2013 Jammers however are geared and ready to go. Assured a winning record this year, the Jammers are a top 3 scoring team -- all this without Percy Harvin who will be back for the playoffs. Get ready for the Jammers!
Spunky Misunderstood Geniuses
There is slightly more mystery in the SMG division. The Jubas control their own destiny at this point. Win and get first round bye. If the Jubas lose, they do own the tie breaker against the Phreaks but will come down to points scored for Battle Angels. With a tie in their head to head, it will come down to how they do this week. They are at a virtual tie right now in points scored on the year which makes it rather easy if the Jubas lose -- outscore the other team and secure first round bye. In this scenario, there is a chance the Angels can sneak into the top seed but they need the Jubas to lose and to outscore the Jubas this week. Keep in mind the Jubas are playing non-perennial powerhouse, the Fobsters.
